Random Stuffs of Monday Madness

Anybody besides me going to be in Dallas during the first week of August? I have to go to training for the drug education class I teach and Jackson will be in town starting work on his Phd. He's getting a doctorate in digital basket weaving or something like that. I think we're staying in Richardson. If you're interested, holler at me and we'll figure out a time to meet for dinner or something.

I'm still kicking around a really pitiful little problem. I can take free classes at the local university since Jackson works there. I have to take night classes. Or online classes. But I have no idea what to study. I am so damn tired of psychology - I have zero desire to get a Master's degree in that particular discipline. They don't offer a Master's in Criminal Justice, and I don't think I would want it if they did. There is some sort of masochistic Master's degree in Public Administration, I think. I also think I'd rather stick hot pokers in my eyes than take those classes. I have no desire to administrate the public. I've kinda been kicking around the idea of an English degree, although I have no desire to teach. What else does one do with an English degree? (I'm thinking I may need to order the Prairie Home Companion's English Majors collection for use as some sort of discernment tool.) I'd really love to take art classes, but they offer very, very few of them at night. So, you can see my dilemma, no? Free liberal arts education and no real desire to take advantage of it. Tragic, isn't it? There may be starving children in Africa, but I can't be bothered with that! I have to decide how to attain a graduate degree with the least amount of effort possible!

My niece is spending the evening here while her parents take in the new Batman movie. (Highly recommended by the Spooky/Jackson Entertainment Appraisal Consortium, by the way.) Jonboy and Mindy (not THAT Mindy) seldom let her stay here when she was shorter. They feared our influence, no doubt. Unfortunately the tides have turned. The Pink Child got Barbies on my carpet. Now I'm gonna have to vacuum. And probably disinfect.

Aaaccckk! Barbies on the carpet! Clean it up before it stains!

Dang! You get free classes and you don't have to wait two years? Cool!

I've only had a week and two days in the Psychology Dept and I don't think I would want to get too deep into that subject!

Maybe there is a class you can take for fun while you are weighing out your options?

Too bad you aren't going to be in Houston. I's drive over there to meet you!

My experience with these free classes offers is that you have to be enrolled toward a degree, but they don't care if you change your major every week. Start with English and see how it goes....a Masters in English never heart anyone.

Richardson is only 2 'burbs over. You still have my phone number, right? Wanna meet The Alpha?

Email me to work out details.

Rats--I was in Dallas last week.

Who says you have to DO something with a degree, anyway? Can't you just have fun? Do they have creative writing? That could be good.

And this Barbie business sounds serious. Do they have a "Ghostbusters" kind of thing for that? You can't just avoid that spot of the carpet forever.

I'll be just a little west of Dallas! In Glendale. California. Just a couple day drive, if you don't stop to sleep.

Why not strike fear in the heart of our government leaders and get a poli-sci degree?

And you are missing a trick with this Barbie business and your niece. Perhaps it's time to introduce your niece to the exciting, new and fun Barbie's Tatoo and Body Piercing Shop!!

At said university spouses can take free classes either working toward a degree or on a non-degree seeking plan. There is a new specialization within the MPA that is Homeland Security. It sounds kind of interesting. Our MA in counseling students are exceeding the national average in success rates. To get a master's in English you have to get an "education" degree and that is somewhat frightening. There is always the MA in management which is the degree of least resistence that I am currently working toward. But if you did that and finished before me I'd be ticked.

And junior had her Barbies out at one of our softball games. They were committing suicide jumping off a 4-foot retaining wall. You'd have been proud.

Silver smithing classes!!! OH OH!!

Oh! You mean what YOU should take. Well that is not so fun.

I think you are a closet Barbie collector. I saw Snow White Barbie in your desk drawer still in your box.

And you know too many Mindys.

Ewww! Yuck! Barbies.

How about underwater basket weaving?

Doesn't it always work that way!.....free classes and no idea what you want to take----like when I go clothes shopping. No money = millions of ever-so-lovely frocks that make me look INCREDIBLE. Money in my wallet = not one darn thing on the entire West Coast.

They don't offer any creative writing classes you could teach?

Pink barbies?? Bleach the whole entire house at once! And then replace all the carpet.

spookyrach, you should connect with Miss Pattie of Texas Trifles, she's in Fort Worth ..... right on the way to Richardson ... well, by West Texas standards, at least. A while back, Elder Son and I had an actual lunch with this virtual acquaintance of ours, at Purple Cow, and it was a wonderful visit.

One of my friends at work gave me some Barbie money. It is a pink coin that says,"In Barbie We Trust." I am not making this up.
