Random Thoughts for Monday

I am awash with randomness because I have writer's block and have nothing very interesting to say.

Being child-free this weekend, Jackson and I spent some time roaming around the record store. I bought Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook cd. I've always loved Rod Stewart. But what the heck is the deal with him selling his last two albums on TV commericals? Its like he's Floyd Cramer or something. Makes me feel old.

Also, his hair. In the 80's I thought he had the best damn hair ever. That was 20 years ago. It is so time for him to comb it.

And maybe wash it.

Ok, enough about the hair.

Also, since it was a child-free weekend, we had decided to go to a play in Big Flat City after we visted Jackson's mom in the hospital. We went to the record store and to dinner. Later, while the highway patrolman was running Jackson's license, checking for warrants, we remembered that we'd forgotten the play!

(The light on my license plate was out.)

I went to the university bookstore this afternoon since it is the only place in town that sells art supplies. I paid waaay too much for some gesso to cover up a really horrible painting. I hope to salvage the canvass for something way less third-graderish. As a painter I am a darn good draw-er.

I just learned that Katie didn't know a vampire can't come into your house unless invited. Tsk, tsk. Her education is sadly lacking.

I'm in the mood to see Nightmare Before Christmas again.

If I were to ever go back to school, which is not something I have any intention of doing, I would do a thesis over the Old Testament morality of horror movies. Wonder what kind of Phd. I could get with that?

Today it finally felt like fall. Fall lasts for about 36 hours total around here. I am ready for some cold weather. I love nothing better than sleeping in a freezing cold room with lots of heavy blankets.

Wonder if I can convince anyone to go camping with me in November...?

We could probably be convinced to go camping in November. It'd be way cooler than our camping episode from May (see the blog archives).

Nice assorted observations! Yes, Rod Stewart needs to comb his hair already.

I'd go. Would you gosnow camping with me in February? You haven't lived until you've slept in a snow cave.

Which record store?

When I was in high school in Big Flat, when it came to record stores there was only one.

You could probably get a big honkin PhD with a dissertation idea like that one, most likely in Comp Lit, Modern/Pop Culture Studies, or English. Seriously. Hold on tight to that idea--there's an awesome book waiting to come out of it. And it'd give you an excuse to watch all the horror movies you could manage, too.

Gothicism as interpreted by Moses and the Prophets. Would make a very interesting dissertation. Just think what you could do with Ezekiel! Run it by the head of the English or Religion depts. at your University, see what they say.

Much less big than that Big Flat City, RM!

Here's the link: http://www.ralphsrecords.net/.

So, do y'all think the powers that be would let me just skip the Master's all together and go right on to the Terminal stuff? Plus, I would want a big ol' grant to go along with it. Hee hee!

I FREAKEN wanna go camping!! November is fine with me. I am loving this weather. I would love it even more if it got colder and rainier!

My idea of camping is Holiday Inn Express. Sorry!

I'd go camping with you in November. And I love you being awash with randomness!! Yay for randomness. I also did not know that a vampire cannot enter your house unless invited. I'll try to remember that.
(it might come in handy in a dream someday)

Rod Stewart is selling his albums on those late-night commercials? Oh, now that is too depressing.

I would LOVE to go camping in Big Bend in November. Camping is a blast...unless it is raining. I hate that.

Rod's hair hates that, too.

When I was teaching elementary school not too far from you, I used to joke that we had to be prepared to teach about fall and spring on the day they happened. That's about all you get. Dog blogger's Alpha says our seasons are not quite summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas.

Old Testament morality in horror films? How so? Because there's no apparent grace for the monster/ ghost/ villain? The necessity of proper rituals to keep the horror at bay? The necessity of sacrifice? I'd love to discuss this with you. The Old Testament & horror movies are two of my favorite topics!
