Since you asked...

We had sort of been kicking around the idea of getting a dog. Vaguely. Non-commitally. Uninspiredly.

Then, Jackson had to go and rebuild all our gates last weekend. Dog-proofed 'em while he was at it. Put springs on 'em so the kid with zero short term memory that lives at our house would not let an animal out every time she went through the gate and forgot to close it behind her.

Naturally, the yard was screaming for occupancy at this point.

As for Jackson, he is a semi-reformed pet rescuer. When he worked in Big Flat City he often spent his lunch hour hanging out at the humane society and he always adopted the sick, infirm or socially challenged animals because he felt soooo sorry for them. He's such a marshmallow!

We had sort of planned on adopting a puppy from someone he knows at work, as soon as the puppies were weaned. But on Sunday, Jackson had a relapse. He noticed cars at the local Humane Society when he drove past on his way to the grocery store. They were closed, but he stopped anyway and gave 'em his own puppy dog eyes. They let him in to look at the animals.

He came home empty handed, believe it or not. But he convinced Katie and I we needed to go look at the puppies on Monday after work. Granted, he didn't have to work very hard to convince us. Trust me when I tell you there was no way on God's green earth that Jackson was coming home empty handed a second time.

Katie named her Zoe. She's a some kind of a German Shepard mix. She likes cat food, rawhide and ankle biting. Her talent is crossing the living room floor without falling on her face more than once and she feels like global warming is the most significant challenge facing the next generation.

She is totally precious.

She looks precious. My kids want a dog - so does my husband. He wants to get a beagle and name it bagel. He's so weird. My cats would disown me and I would be forever known as the crazy lady at the end of the block who's cats left her because she got a dog.

Thanks PPB!!!

Dijea: Oh gosh! I'm in the same boat. I haven't seen Evil Steve in at least 24 hours. *wrings hands worriedly*....

Mindy: Yeah, I think it's the eyebrows, don't you?

I just love her. She is precious!!!

What a cutie! And I don't dare within a five mile radius of the animal shelter. I share Jackson's marshmallow heart. Oh, and I'm working on developing Zoe's talent for myself. Does she have any tips to offer?

Thanks gator girl! You'd like her!

Preacher mom: Zoe says shoes tend to get in the way. Do it barefoot.

HEY! DID ANYONE NOTICE THAT MY DOG HAS STIGMATA???

Zoe is adorable!

Now that you mention it, YEAH... puppy stigmata! Only your dog, Rach.

And I'm so glad to hear she's some kind of a Shepherd mix! My guess was right!

Yep! You were right on, dogblogger!

Woof! Zoe, you are cute. But if you were smaller I could show you how to get out of that fence!

Gotta chew something now.

Congratulations!! She is beautiful.

That is one very cute dog. Evil Steve will be back. Won't be happy. But will be back.

And the Stigmata! What a nice bonus.

Have you locked up your shoes yet? Just sayin'.

spookyrach said...

Shoes? Heck, I locked up the whole damn bedroom!

Grace there is no way for her to escape, I dug out under each gate and put in cement so it is dig proof, pickets are set before ground level....doggy proof.

***Update..Evil Steve is back, but wait she was never really gone. We discovered she was locked in one of the backrooms. She is not happy with the new living situation but she also likes the free room and board she receives here.

Yes I admit it...I have a soft spot for sick and locked up animals. I can not stand stupid people, people that ask stupid questions, people that whine or complain, or people that simply do not read instructions I have posted on a login screen in big letters that will solve/answer every question they email me, but I have a soft spot for animals

Sounds like Jackson has been working with the students again. I think the puppy showed more apptitude for computer applications at work the other day than did many of the students.

I want to say she is precious, too, but that would be copying. So cute!

Oh, wow! Congratulations! What a doll!

Jonboy how did you guess hehehe

Oh, "Zoe" looks like a sweetheart!

She looks like a precious little fur baby!

Gack! I will NOT use the word "precious" to describe Zoe! Oh, sure, her little eyebrows will be very useful for inducing sympathy when she chews up one of your drawings. But wait until next year when she is going to be eating more than Katie the teen. Uh-huh, then we will see who's "precious," won't we?

I love puppy breath!

And puppies. And sweet dogs, mischievious dogs (when they live somewheres else), and all dogs in between.

Good luck, puppies are....challenging! I'm sure you already knew that *smile*
