Which explains why I usually go to a mobile unit! In and out.

My best friend wanted to donate a pint of her own blood for an upcoming surgical procedure and I tagged along. After a half an hour of poking, and three different techs, I'd had enough. "What blood type are you? Good. So I am. Get up." The staff had a fit and said I couldn't donate directly to her. We both agreed it didn't make any difference *what* they did with the blood. We wanted to go HOME.

We were on the street in fifteen minutes.

"THAT", I said, "is how you give blood."Lady Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10608765381189723792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7948766.post-81757590442749505762017-01-25T19:25:01.460-06:002017-01-25T19:25:01.460-06:00My name has whatever is the opposite of a gold sta...My name has whatever is the opposite of a gold star next to it. I've only tried to donate blood once, in college. It took forever--people came, gave their blood, got their cookie, and left. Still I sat. The phlebotomist, of considerably darker complexion than I, kept saying, "Honey? You ok? You look awfully pale." "I'm fine. I *am* pale. I can't help it." On that went, several times. Never having fainted before, I didn't know what it felt like. Then I realized what "tunnel vision" means. I indicated to the phlebotomist that I wasn't feeling so great. She yanked the needle out of my arm, tilted me back, interrogated me: "Are you sure you ate before you came over here? Are you sure you weigh 110 pounds?" Yes, and yes. Then...sad news: "Unless it's for some kind of family emergency, I don't think you need to try this again."

....some years later, I worked for a church that hosted those RV blood mobiles. Our building guy/custodian always marked it on his calendar as "Vampires."Monicahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16593751475794211399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7948766.post-39858174084671762052017-01-24T22:13:48.461-06:002017-01-24T22:13:48.461-06:00Oh, how cool is that!
